Committees

ARBOR DAY COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate Arbor Day proceedings with Program Committee.
  2. Coordinate with Publicity Committee.
  3. Promote Arbor Day to general membership via newsletter.
  4. Assist in determining recipients of Gold Leaf Award and coordinate with Awards Committee.

ARBORIST CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Liaison with ISA for Penn-Del Chapter. Disseminate information from ISA to Chapter Certified Arborists.
  2. Work with ISA concerning continuing education credits. Provide forms for CEU's at meetings.
  3. Set up dates, locations and proctors for exams given twice each year. Collect exams , CEU forms and other forms and send to ISA.

AWARDS COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

Determine recipients for all annual awards, to include award of merit, Past President Award, nominating candidates for annual ISA awards, and other award as deemed appropriate.

BASIC ARBORICULTURE SCHOOL COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. The chairman of this committee shall be a Penn-Del Chapter member and will coordinate activity between the Penn State Extension liaison and the committee.
  2. Plan and organize: instructors, speakers, certificates, facilities and registration.
  3. Coordinate dates with Newsletter Committee and other publicity.
  4. Coordinate graduation with Publicity Committee. Obtain group picture and names of all graduates.
  5. The President of the Penn-Del Chapter or another officer should be present at graduation ceremony to address the gathering.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPRESENTATIVE TO ISA

The Chapter Representative to the Board of Directors of the International Society of Arboriculture shall represent the Chapter in all matters coming before the ISA Board. He/she shall attend 2 annual ISA meeting each year, deliver concerns as requested by the Chapter and upon returning, present a report to the Executive Committee. The Chapter will pay all necessary expenses for attendance at the 2 annual ISA meetings.

BUDGET AND FINANCE COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and monitor total budget for the Penn-Del ISA Chapter.
  2. Coordinate with Committee Heads to project costs as accurately as possible for each coming year
  3. Determine sources and amounts of revenues.
  4. Monitor and adjust income fees as necessary.
  5. Conduct an internal audit of the Treasurer's records annually.

CERTIFIED ARBORIST BOARD MEMBER

The Chapter representative to the ISA Certified Arborist Board shall attend 2 Certified Arborist Board meetings per year as scheduled by the ISA. These costs are borne by the I.S.A.

CERTIFIED ARBORIST LIAISON TO THE ISA

The Certified Arborist liaison shall attend 2 Certified Arborist Board meetings per year as scheduled by the ISA. The Chapter will pay transportation and 2 night's lodging for each meeting.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as liaison with ISA for Penn-Del Chapter. Disseminate information from ISA to Chapter Certified Arborists.
  2. Work with ISA concerning continuing education credits and provide forms for CEU's at meetings.
  3. Set up dates, locations, proctors for exams given twice each year. Collect exams, CEU forms and other forms and send to ISA.
  4. Develop slide set for plant I.D. portion of exam.

CERTIFIED TEST COMMITTEE MEMBER

The Chapter member of the ISA Certified Arborist Test Committee shall attend 2 Certified Arborist Test Committee meetings per year as scheduled by the ISA. All costs are borne by the ISA.

CHAPLAIN

General Responsibilities:

The chaplain shall open all executive meetings, general meetings, and others as appropriate with a prayer.

EDUCATION COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Schedule all Penn-Del Chapter educational programs for the year.
  2. Programs may include a Spring meeting, Harvest Show, Fall meeting, Arbor Expo, and any other programs of interest through the year to encourage membership participation and arboricultural awareness.
  3. Symposium responsibility is to obtain speakers and establish agenda for the two day conference.
  4. Notify Newsletter Editor and Publicity Committee of all programs through-out the year. Suggest extra mailings for specific programs to increase attendance. Possibly locate in other parts of the state.
  5. Assist in developing and monitoring a yearly budget.

EDUCATION OUTREACH SUB-COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this sub-committee have not been defined but they are separate from the planning of the Symposium and the educational meetings that have traditionally been offered.

HISTORIAN COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Record list of Chapter officers.
  2. Record primary Chapter events.
  3. Coordinate articles on Chapter history with Newsletter Committee.
  4. Compile and keep updated a scrapbook including available pictures.

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Set up and manage Hospitality Suite during Symposium.
  2. Raise and manage contributions toward Symposium Hospitality Suite.
  3. Deliver and set up lunches for Executive Committee meetings.
  4. Prepare budget, monitor expenses and report to Budget and Finance Committee.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. The president-elect, as chairman, shall form a strong committee of several people to focus on the following responsibilities. A report shall be prepared for each Executive Committee meeting.
  2. Coordinate membership drives with Newsletter Committee and Program Committee.
  3. Prepare budget, monitor expenses and report to Budget and Finance Committee.
  4. Provide follow-up on lapsed members.
  5. Distribute membership forms to Extension offices so that membership can be promoted at Extension meeting.
  6. Determine new membership goals and follow through to increase by a certain percentage.
    • Offer incentive to existing members for sponsoring new members.
    • Approach colleges and universities.
  7. Update ISA information.

NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Publish newsletter.
  2. Publish calendar of all special programs.
  3. Solicit articles from membership for newsletter.
  4. Assist in maintaining and updating mailing list.
  5. Coordinate publishing information on special events in advance with committee heads.
  6. Coordinate advertisements.
  7. Prepare budget, monitor expenses and report to Budget and Finance Committee.
  8. Promote special events by additional mailings.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

Three past presidents comprise this committee. The immediate past president will be chairperson. They shall conduct nominations as provided in the by-laws (section 2, article A). Nominations shall be brought before the executive committee for approval. Nominees must be prior members of the ISA and the Penn Del Chapter.

PAST PRESIDENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. This committee shall consist of all Past Presidents of the Penn-Del Chapter. The committee shall elect its chairman annually.
  2. The committee shall serve in an advisory or consulting capacity to the Executive Committee. It shall promote and preserve the objectives, traditions, and professionalism of ISA and the Penn-Del Chapter of ISA.
  3. Special efforts should be directed to supporting the work of the ISA Research Trust.
  4. The Chapter will sponsor a luncheon for all Past Presidents at the annual Symposium. Symposium registration will be paid for all past presidents over age 65.
  5. During the year the Chapter will sponsor an annual dinner for Past Presidents Advisory Committee. Spouses or guests are invited at their own expense.

POLICY AND PROCEDURES COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. To review and revise constitution and by-laws as needed at the request of the President and by agreement of the Executive Committee.
  2. This committee shall hold at least one meeting per year which will be announced in advance for input from the Executive Board members.

PROPERTIES COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Inventory and publish Chapter property.
  2. Arrange storage for all property and list locations.
  3. Assist in staging exhibits for various programs.
  4. Report summary of cost for new items to Budget Committee.
  5. Monitor and detail projected budget as needed.

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate all news releases and press coverage for major Penn-Del ISA events.
  2. Assist in obtaining space for news articles related to important messages from ISA to local media.
  3. Promote our participation in various programs using newspapers and other media.
  4. Submit articles periodically to upgrade consumers understanding of the need to hire professional arborists for their pruning and general maintenance needs.

RESEARCH TRUST COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

  1. Committee Chairperson functions as liaison throughout the year between Chapter and National ISA. He/she shall attend 2 meetings per year as scheduled by the ISA.
  2. Coordinates fund raising throughout the year.

SYMPOSIUM COMMITTEE

The Committee will be chaired by the President Elect and will include the Vice President, the current President and the immediate Past President. Other appointees are to be made by the chairman and at the discretion of the committee, and may include Penn State Extension personnel, utility arborists, and others. The executive secretary will serve as coordinator of the Symposium after the program and speakers have been agreed upon. At the first Executive Committee meeting after the Symposium, the Chairman of the Symposium Committee shall present a preliminary program for the following year. A set of guidelines for planning the Symposium, including deadlines for completion, shall be compiled.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

Organize and plan regarding annual fund raising event, the profit to be used for the scholarship fund. The committee will award the scholarship to a deserving student to study arboriculture.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

Send sympathies of Penn-Del Chapter to families of deceased members, send flowers or fruit to sick members.

TREE CLIMBING CHAMPIONSHIP STEERING COMMITTEE

General Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of the Tree Climbing Championship Committee is to oversee all Tree Climbing Championships held by the Penn-Del Chapter and to ensure that they are conducted according to all rules of the ISA TCC. The committee shall consist of one chairman appointed by the President, and 4 appointed members from throughout the geographical area of the Penn-Del Chapter.

  1. Organize all TCC activities, to include publicity, registration, horticulture booth, judging, set-up, insurance, prizes and miscellaneous activities
  2. Arrange for host site.
  3. Provide Awards for contestants.
  4. Prepare budget, monitor expenses and report to Budget and Finance Committee.
  5. Executive Committee will determine the winning Chapter contestant to attend the International Jamboree. The ISA office is to be notified by the Executive Secretary.
